So, I enquired by the Apple Store employees… who had to ask their tech guru… who said that the 7200 rm drives are 3 Gbps also and that the SSD drives are 3 Gbps also. As a followup to my Mac Mini 2010 Hard Drive Speed rant, I went to the Apple Store today to check what’s up with the Mac Mini 2011. 3.The Mac mini is designed for 2 x 9.5mm hdd with approximately 1mm of space left in between them.

The Apple Store had no 7200 rpm or SSD Mac Mini on display. Seagate recently released a 5TB Barracuda 2.5' at 15mm. One such situation is when wanting to run Windows 10 natively on your Mac (in my case my Mac mini). Can I install more RAM on my Mac Mini The answer is yes and no. However, why still not a 6 Gbps drive? Because the drives are not fast enough to saturate a 3 Gbps link? My bet is that 6 Gbps would definitely make sense with SSD. First, seems the TRIM support only will work on Apples stack SSD, can not be achieved by 3rd vendor.
Here are few things I want to share with anyone interested in the SSD. With an adapter, some can be retrofitted to tuck an IDE SSD into an iMac or other full-size Macintosh 3.5' drive bay common at the time. Ordered the i7 Mini and can not wait to open it up, upgraded to 8G memory and, of course, the 256G SSD (Samsung). That is definitely not an improvement over last year’s model. During iFixit’s teardown of Apple’s new Mac Mini it was discovered that within the 2011 Mac Mini there was just enough space for owners to fit an additional hard drive. Even for much older G3 and G4 Macintosh models there are a few 2.5' IDE solid-state drives that can be a drop-in replacement for legacy Mac Mini and iBooks.
As a followup to my Mac Mini 2010 Hard Drive Speed rant, I went to the Apple Store today to check what’s up with the Mac Mini 2011…Īpparently, the Nvidia chipset has been replaced with an Intel chipset that is now capable of 6 Gigabit/second link speeds… and the entry level drive is now capable of 3 Gbps link speeds…
